Garbage couture? Yes but not in the metaphorical sense of the term and instead the literal sense. Ashton Michael’s S/S 11 collection was eco and amazing. The fabric was made out of recycled plastic bottles that became weaved cotton and fabric. From this really edgy urban garments for the fashion and eco conscious were made. With a limited palette of black and white, the collection saw references to Vivienne Westwood’s bondage pants and Scandinavian trendy ‘shredding’. The natural progression from black to white was executed well by the production and the casting of grungy and alternative models really pushed the envelope. I must say it was one of the most exciting collections I have seen so far at NYFW.
